GARY PETERS is an astute boss. He knows better than anyone that the job is only half-done.
Guiding Preston into Division Two is merely Part One of a three-pronged challenge. Part Two is avoiding a quickfire drop in twelve months time, Part Three is mounting a realistic campaign to take the club back into the Big Time.
But, on Saturday, players, officials and fans can savour the moment as the new champions face Exeter City in the final match of a celebrated season.
Make no mistake, Preston have the potential to stride into the 21st Century with growing and glowing confidence - provided they can build on the right attitude.
Peters, given good support, can steer them towards even more glories. But beware the pitfalls. Carlisle stormed the lower division last season - and will probably be back there by full-time on Saturday.
Success leaves Peters happily basking in the sunshine glow, finally out of the giant shadow of predecessor John Beck, and loyal fans joining in the excitement of the Deepdale Deliverance.
