BURNLEY today agreed an £80,000 fee with First Division Barnsley for defender Charlie Bishop.
But Bishop's move to Turf Moor now hinges on him agreeing personal terms with the Clarets.
"We have agreed the transfer with Barnsley, but at the moment we are still trying to thrash out personal terms with Charlie," explained Burnley chief Adrian Heath.
"The lad is suspended for the Saturday's game against Shrewsbury so that gives us a little bit more time for extra discussions. I will have further talks with him before the weekend."
Heath added: "Charlie has done well for us since he arrived on transfer deadline day. He has shown his worth and played in a few positions in defence. I am hopeful that he will sign."
Meanwhile, Heath has dismissed local speculation that Bolton Wanderers winger David Lee could be joining Burnley.
"It is news to me and I don't know where that tale came from," he added.
"I've not spoken to Colin Todd about David Lee. There has been no contact whatsoever."
With the Bishop deal hopefully in the bag, Heath is continuing the task of trawling for fresh talent as the season draws to a conclusion. The Turf Moor chief will release his retained list early next week and it could contain some surprises.
Speculation is already growing that a clear out could be on the cards.
He added: "I've seen better things from the players over the last month, and maybe certain players have forced their own issue," he added.
"The likes of David Eyres and Liam Robinson have shown a great example over the past few weeks.
"Liam was not having a particularly good time. But when it got down the nitty-gritty, he's rolled his sleeves up and done really well.
"His enthusiasm has rubbed off on one or two in the squad. I am constantly working to bring people in. I will not rest until I've got the players I want.
"I want to bring in players of quality to this club, which will ultimately provide far more competition for places.
"I want us to better equipped next season and to be stronger all-round. I am determined it will be a successful campaign.
"We're going to have a really good pre-season and get down to some proper work. The real work begins this week."
Burnley could be lining up continental opposition to mark the opening of Turf Moor's all-seater stadium in August.
I understand there are plans to bring over a crack Italian or Dutch outfit to stage a fixture the week before the start of the Endsleigh League campaign.
A Burnley spokesman confirmed: "We are looking at high quality opposition for the prestige friendly which would be a suitable curtain-raiser to mark the opening of the new ground."
