STILL serving a useful purpose to its community after 29 years Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Whitefield now wants to build a permanent structure.
It will include a hall for social functions, and several meeting rooms for groups from tiny tots to senior citizens.
Saint Michael's have already raised £80,000 towards the £340,000 costs of the new church.
Their next major fund-raiser will be a Gala Day held in the grounds of Saint Michael's Primary School on May 12.
There's the promise of something for all the family including a craft fair and car boot sale, balloon race, plant stall, bouncing pie, all sorts of fun and games, a cafe and a licensed bar.
Anyone wishing to help with the Gala Day or in any other way is invited to telephone the secretary of the fund-raising committee, Angela Still, on: 796 2128.
