FARMERS in the Ribble Valley will be opening their gates to the public as part of the annual "Welcome to the Countryside" campaign across England and Wales.
Over a thousand farm open days and farm events will take place on a national scale to encourage visitors to see for themselves how the food they eat is produced.
The campaign, which has become a hugely successful summer event, is expected to be even more important this year in the light of the current BSE scare.
Among the farms taking part, is Peacock Hey Farm, Chipping, which is a traditional hill farm where visitors will be invited to complete a farm walk on Tuesday, June 4, to look at the hill landscape, new walling sections and conservation areas.
In August, visitors will be invited to Lowcocks Farm, West Bradford, which is a working dairy farm complete with dairy cows, sheep, pigs and poultry.
And again in August, Little Town Farm at Thornley display dairy farming and yoghurt-making skills.
