ONE of the biggest football matches in Bury Grammar School's history will take place later this month when they take on Blackburn's Queen Elizabeth Grammar School - better known as QEGS.
The big event is the northern final of the Boodle & Dunthorne Independent Schools Cup at Chester's Deva Stadium at 7.30pm on April 30 when top referee Dermot Gallagher will be warming up for a bigger match - the F.A.Cup final!
To reach this first northern final Bury's lads had to see off Batley Grammar School and both last year's finalists, St Bede's College in Manchester and Ardingley College in Sussex.
In a thrilling semi-final they needed extra time and a penalty shoot-out to demolish Brentwood School, Essex, whose team included Trevor Brooking's son Warren.
Sponsors Boodle & Dunthorne have roots in the north of England that go back more than 200 years.
A family business, its owners Nicholas and Michael Wainwright are former pupils at Shrewsbury - and keen footballers.
