REGARDING your article (LET, April 18) on the call for the removal of the 'No ball games' sign at Spring Vale Garden Village, Darwen. I am not a resident of that area, but I only wish I was.
It is an idyllic, picturesque, peaceful and friendly community.
It was not always that way and if it was not for the hard work and pride of the Green residents, it would still resemble a quagmire to this day.
Many long hours of work were put in to surround the Green with large boulders to prevent vehicles churning up the edges. Shrubs were planted and signs deterring dog owners were erected.
The residents have well-kept gardens, costly glazed doors and windows and expensive cars.
Footballs mean damage and damage means cost. Leave the 'No ball games' sign, create a bye-law upholding it and send the children with their parents who signed the petition to the nearby playing fields and parks.
I wonder how many of those who signed actually live on the Green and how many live on the nearby estate and just want somewhere 'convenient' to send their kids.
