A BURNLEY student has won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to learn about the way people live in far-off countries.
Paul Berry, 18, sets off this summer for a two-week stay with a family in Brazil. He's one of nine winners of the Daniel Thwaites Travel Scholarship, a scheme to help young people experience the everyday lives of foreign families.
As well as soaking up the South American country's fascinating culture and trying to fit in with a different lifestyle, the St Theodore's High School student will help with household chores like gardening and washing up!
John Yerburgh, president of Thwaites brewery, which funds the scheme, said: "Students get an insight into another culture and a better understanding of people and life in general. They have extra responsibilities too. They are ambassadors for their country."
Nominated by the mayor of Burnley, Paul, who lives in Rossendale Road, will fly to Brazil with the other eight winners, under the supervision of a lecturer from Blackburn College.
