IT would be interesting to know whether Sir James Goldsmith is putting a candidate up for the forthcoming elections in Blackburn. If so, I think it will be worthwhile going to vote as, it seems, he is the only one at present who has the welfare of the nation at heart and his is a new party.
The present parties at Westminster seem content to let Brussels and foreign powers walk all over us.
They are afraid to oppose Brussels, they have let our fishing industry decline, brought our beef and farming to the verge of ruin and let Brussels say which of our laws should apply and which laws should not.
At least, Sir James seems to have the guts to fight back, unlike our present politicians and government.
Voting on a single currency is one thing, but a better thing would be to have a referendum for pulling out of the EU.
Being in it has cost us our heritage and our right to uphold our own laws. Also, we put more money into Europe than we get out.
J F SMITH (Mr), Leeds Close, Blackburn.
