A SCHEME to install spy cameras on school buses is being speeded up after a deluge of complaints from operators.
Lancashire County Council agreed in January to spend £17,500 to help 18 bus operators each install a camera.
But the project has not yet got into gear because talks are still taking place between the council, bus operators, police and teachers to agree a code of practice about the use of cameras and tapes.
In the meantime, the number of incidents reported by operators is on the increase.
In the 1994/95 academic year, 251 incidents were reported, and 251 have already been reported since the start of the current academic year in September 1995.
The council's public transport sub-committee will be asked on Thursday to delegate a decision on the code of practice to a special sub-committee.
