KEVIN Gallacher's Euro 96 dream is still alive.

Contrary to reports today, the Blackburn Rovers striker has travelled to Scotland to link up with the national squad called together for special training by Craig Brown.

Gallacher (pictured right), suffered a hamstring injury in the opening period of Rovers' final Premiership game of the season against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

He was substituted immediately, with Ewood boss Ray Harford expressing concern about the extent of the damage with the European Championship finals only a month away.

But Rovers physio Steve Foster said today: "Kevin came in for treatment yesterday and it doesn't seem to be as bad as we first thought.

"He has been able to travel to join the rest of the Scotland squad and they will look at him later today.

"A decision will then be made as to whether it is better for him to stay there for treatment and training, or whether to come back to Blackburn and have treatment here instead." Scotland are due to leave for a pre-Euro 96 trip to America, to play two games, on May 21, with Gallacher, Colin Hendry and Billy McKinlay all named in the squad, which is thought to be a pointer to the party that Brown will eventually announce for the championships.

And Gallacher still has a chance of making that date, with Foster adding: "He hasn't been ruled out of anything yet."

Alan Shearer, meanwhile, still seems to be bang on course to make the England squad.

The striker is working several hours a day, seven days a week to build up his fitness, hoping to be ready for the trip to the Far East, after having groin surgery before the end of the Premiership season.

Shearer is working closely with Alan Smith, the England physio who also does regular consultancy work at Brockhall.

Rovers boss Ray Harford will represent the club at Colchester United when they stage a testimonial game for Bobby Svarc tonight.

Former Ewood and Colchester boss Jim Smith is taking his promotion-winning Derby side to Layer Road for the game in aid of Svarc, who scored 59 goals in 116 League games for the Essex club.

Smith joined Rovers from Colchester and signed Svarc again. He scored 16 goals in 42 (plus eight sub apps) League games at Ewood.

Harford played in the same Colchester side as Svarc, when Smith was Layer Road boss from 1972-75.

Henning Berg is expected to play in a star-studded testimonial game for Paul Merson at Highbury tomorrow night.
