LANCASTER'S long unbeaten league run came to an end when they lost their final game at home to Farsley Celtic on Saturday.

With the league title already secured, City found it difficult to raise their game despite taking an early lead and eventually went down after a late goal.

Farsley came to with Grant Axe fresh from having ended Lincoln's promotion hopes in midweek and looking to end their season on a high note.

Stuart Diggle and Gary Dullaghan missed the game through injury and Diggle's absence in particular caused City problems as they're struggled to create much going forward.

The Blues started confidently and took the lead after eight minutes. Mark Shirley collected the ball and made a strong run down the left leaving defenders in his wake before playing a perfectly weighted cross for John Coleman to head powerfully past Wayne Baker.

Farsley gradually came into the game as City began to lose their way and they equalised after 31 minutes, Robbie Whellans fired home from close range following a goal-mouth scramble.

City almost regained the lead shortly afterwards when a goal-bound shot from Shirley was headed off the line.

Although the visitors had the better of the second half, they struggled to create many openings.

But just as the game looked like ending in a draw, Calvin Allen received the ball in the penalty area and placed it past Mark Thornley to clinch the game and end City's record breaking unbeaten run.

The final whistle brought the curtain down on City's season and the result was soon forgotten as celebrations that had begun a week earlier were continued.
