A YOUNG girl who suffered serious injuries in a road accident may have to spend up to ten weeks in hospital to recover.
Helen Cunliffe, whose ten-year-old daughter, Rachel, was injured in the accident on Tuesday, said the youngster suffered fractures to her leg and pelvis.
Rachel was on her way home from Reedley Primary School when she was in collision with a Vauxhall van on busy Higher Reedley Road, Brierfield. The family only moved to their new home in Ribchester Way, Brierfield, a few days ago.
Although there is a crossing patrol on the road, Mrs Cunliffe suspects Rachel might have got confused and walked towards her former house, which is nearby, before realising her mistake and tried to cross the road on her own.
"She knows she's been in an accident, but she doesn't remember anything about it," said Mrs Cunliffe, a nurse at Burnley General Hospital where Rachel is being treated.
Today, hospital staff said the youngster was in a stable condition.
Motorist Lillian Bridge, 84, of Church, who was injured in a two-vehicle road accident in Nelson on Monday night, is stable in Burnley General Hospital.
