THE 'will he, won't he move?' surrounding Saints' Welsh ace Scott Gibbs rumbled on as the Star went to press yesterday, Wednesday, with the Knowsley Road club adopting a 'sit tight' policy.

Gibbs signed for Saints from Swansea in 1994 and has made no secret of his wish to return to Rugby Union, and his name has been linked with Richmond, Cardiff and Newcastle.

Said Saints' chairman Eric Ashton: "I have spoken with Richmond chief executive Simon Elliott and Jonathan Davies of Cardiff, and can confirm that both made offers for Scott which were not acceptable to us.

"I would also like to make it clear that Saints do not want to lose Gibbs and have spent a lot of time attempting to change his mind without success, but as far as we are concerned the price must be right for Scott because we would have to seek a replacement,' added Mr. Ashton.

Meanwhile, Saints' chief executive David Howes (pictured) has denied reports that Bobbie Goulding is set to play Rugby Union next winter and that Wigan star Gary Connolly is to return to Knowsley Road.

Undefeated Super League leaders Saints will entertain third-placed London Broncos in a re-arranged fixture on Sunday, kick-off 6pm, with the complete match being screened on the Sky channel. Referee is Stephen Presley of Castleford, while the Academy teams of both clubs will meet in a curtain-raiser kick-off 4.15pm.

Saints' scheduled trip to Sheffield Eagles on Saturday, June 8, will now be played at an alternative venue because the Don Valley stadium is not available.

Saints have been fined £1,850, with payment of £1,000 suspended for a year, after their Academy team was involved in a brawl at Halifax on Sunday, April 21.

Saints Travel Club have organised four trips to Paris on the weekend of August 9, 10 and 11 and details of these may be obtained from the club superstore.

Long-serving Australian utility player Phil Veivers has joined Huddersfield on a two-year contract for a transfer fee of £12,500. Saints will honour their promise of a testimonial game for Phil and also a collection to be taken at the match with Leeds on June 30. His number 25 squad jersey will not be taken by any other Saints' player. Chief executive David Howes has confirmed that the club will no longer sanction12-month testimonials, but short-term ones might be allowed, with each case judged on its merits.

Keiron Cunningham, Scott Gibbs, Dean Busby and Anthony Sullivan have been chosen in the Welsh squad for the European championships starting on Wednesday, June 5.
