DESPITE John Major's election promise and Trade and Industry Minister Ian Lang's subsequent statement to the Commons that the Forestry Commission woodlands should remain in the public sector, 158 public woodlands comprising 22,245 acres were privatised last year.
These included Ashpots and Hollinshead, Havelock Roods, Long Ellers Wood and Scroggs Wood in Lancashire.
It was not only on taxes that Mr Major lied to us directly while Mr Lang specialises in deceiving our elected representatives.
