CLASSROOM calm was to return to East Lancashire schools, following a surprise peace agreement to settle the long-running teachers' dispute.
Teachers were to receive a pay increase of more than 5.5 per cent in return for a promise to move towards genuine industrial harmony.
The deal, reached at a ten-hour meeting with local authority employers, meant that the threat from the NUT to restart strike action was averted.
