A FORMER Rossendale dentist, a key witness in the Rosemary West mass murder trial, is at the centre of another gruesome case.
Dr David Whittaker, now of South Wales, is examining teeth and part of a skull from a burned body found in the middle of a forest.
Based at the University of South Wales in Cardiff, Dr Whittaker is one of the country's leading forensic dental experts and in the West case helped identify some of the Cromwell Street victims.
Now he has been asked to try and identify the mystery victim who was put on a bonfire.
Other forensic scientists have also been called in to examine the scene in the 2,500 acre Wentwood Forest, near Newport in Gwent.
