SIR: It is poignant that in National Pet Week we read of London Underground's inhumane treatment of a dog.
Having recently lost a cherished pet, my heart goes out to those who are similarly grieving. Society unconsciously applies a pressure on people to overcome their grief quickly because "it's just an animal", and for the individual concerned it becomes a taboo subject which forces the grief to be hidden in front of others.
Through my own experience, I have found that there is help available through various individuals and organisations who understand your sadness. For anyone who feels that they want advice in this area or someone to contact who understands, then write to me.
