REGARDING your report (LET, April 29) about Blackburn Town Hall's cleaners, I and many others are amazed that any cleaning staff at all are required.
I am not taking issue about their pay and conditions, but with the actual necessity of employing cleaners, from outside or otherwise, and paying them out of our council tax.
Anyone who has been in the town hall can affirm that all employees have more than ample spare time in which to keep themselves and their work areas clean and tidy - from the lift attendant to the chief executive.
I find it offensive that this issue is being discussed when many citizens of Blackburn have to work longer and harder than most town hall employees to make ends meet and have to ensure that their work areas are clean and tidy in order to stay competitive in the real world, outside the safe walls of Blackburn Town Hall.
