THROUGH The Journal, Wigan and Leigh lecturers union NATFHE wishes to make clear that at no point during the negotiations with the college management did NATFHE consider agreeing to reductions in salary.
This claim was suggested in the comment "Salaries are being reduced in line with the agreement we made with the lecturers union" made by Margaret Murdin, principal of the college in an article entitled 'You coward' (Journal May 2).
NATFHE refutes that claim absolutely. There was, however, agreement that in certain cases salaries might be frozen and this may well be the situation to which the principal was referring.
