AFTER 13 years representing East Ward Councillor Trevor Holt swopped his postal deliver bag on Wednesday, for Bury Metro's top job as Mayor. His wife Evelyn will be his Mayoress.

Councillor Holt - a postman and former newspaper compositor - follows in the first citizen's footsteps of Neville Singer, the Conservative councillor who recently lost his Whitefield seat in the municipal elections.

Born in the town, Councillor Holt - a Justice of the Peace - lives in Claughton Road, Walshaw.

He is currently the chairman of the Personnel Sub-Committee.

He and his wife Evelyn have been married for 26 years and have three children and two grand-children.

Councillor Holt will still manage his early-morning deliveries alongside his civic engagements, and his Royal Mail bosses will allow him the time off to give the Office his 'stamp' of authority and do a 'first-class' job.

Councillor Richard Fletcher is to have a second consecutive term as deputy mayor.

Normally the outgoing Mayor is voted in as deputy, but having lost his seat Neville Singer is denied the post.
