PENDLE councillor Frank Clifford becomes the borough's first citizen today (Thursday, May 16).
Mr Clifford, of Hazelwood Road, Nelson, is one of our longest serving councillors.
For the last 40 years he has devoted much of his life to local issues and represents Brierfield.
He is currently the chairman of the Community Health Council and supported the hospice plan from its earliest days
Mr Clifford has asked Mrs Carol Riley to be the Mayoress.
During his year of office, money made for the Mayoress' fund will go to the Burnley and Pendle Hospice.
One of their first engagements will be on Sunday for the Mayoral service at Central Methodist Church, Carr Road. The parade to the church will be accompanied by a pipe band and include a large contingent from the Brierfield Army Cadet Corps.
