WHEN hairdresser Peter Armfield offered customers and friends the chance to shave his head they beat a path to the salon door.
Peter, whose salon is in Cross Street, Nelson, came up with the idea to raise money for his church - but he had not counted on the parish priest doing the honours!
The popular 40-year-old's plan soon had more than 300 people queuing to hand over their £1 coins for a chance to wield the clippers, and more gave donations.
Said Peter: "I was selling tickets right up until the last minute but I had to call a halt to it at some stage or I would still have a full head of hair.
"Folk loved the idea of getting their own back, and some bought a handful of tickets."
White-haired grandad Bob Spillaine, one of Peter's customers, had the winning number when the draw was made.
But Bob could not manage to get to the headshave at the appointed hour, so he nominated Fr Michael Haworth, the parish priest at Holy Saviour's, where volunteers are modernising the church annex.
Added Peter: "Perhaps he shouldn't give up the day job. He made me look like a Buddha."
