THREE cooks from local schools have dished up winning recipes in a competition run by the Meat Marketing Board.
Sharing joint first prize and £100 in Marks and Spencer vouchers are Linda Hill, cook at De La Salle School and Anne Stroud of Rainford CE primary. Runner-up was last year's winner Sandra Reid, also of De La Salle.
The competition was open to all employees in the council's school meals service who had the tasty task of cooking a meal for four for under a £1. Because it was sponsored by the Meat Marketing Board, beef featured in the competition although it is still off the menu in local schools.
Linda's winning dish was savoury mince with onions and tomatoes with a puff pastry crown. Anne served up layered lamb, leek and potato casserole; while Sandra chose mince toastie - a combination of mince, onions and tomatoes served on white and brown toast with grilled cheese layer.
