FORMER pupil of Woodhey High School,19-year-old John Morton from Holcombe Brook, Bury, has won the Apprentice Of The Year Award from Salford Technical College.
John, who joined Bury based construction firm Senior Hargreaves on a placement from the Radcliffe and District Training Association, is now studying to complete his final year of the BTec ONC in Building Services.
He will then be able to continue with two more years of study to attain an HNC and a Level 4 National Vocational Qualification. An option to add a further year will enable John to enter the Chartered Institute for Building Services - the recognised professional body in the industry.
Senior Hargreaves managing director Brian Ward, said: "We are happy to see one of our youngsters do so well.
"This is a tribute to John's hard work and persistence and we hope he will continue to develop his skills as he advances his studies and moves around the various departments in the factory."
