REGARDING comments on the police in Darwen, (LET, April 25 and Letters, May 4). We have always found Inspector Harry Bretherton to be helpful and always available.
His co-operation in assisting us to set up a steering committee with the local youth, teachers and headmasters, councillors, private householders and the participation officer from Blackburn housing and Sudellside community centre, with Kath Holding the community development officer and her staff, was of immense support to us.
Our community officer is well liked and respected by all the youngsters in our community. He, too, is always willing and ready to assist us when needed.
Having said that, our aim is to avert trouble and save police time by mediation and encouragement.
I hope that when the group is up and running, and helping themselves your newspaper will support them in their efforts.
L SCOTT (Mrs) (St.James and Ellenshaw Residents' Association), Whalley Crescent, Darwen.
