IWAS most interested to read Ron Freethy's comments (LET, May 10) on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, as I was born and lived in Delph for 38 years before to moving to Blackburn in 1968.
The villages mentioned were part of Saddleworth Urban District, but besides Delph, Diggle, Dobcross and Uppermill, there were also Denshaw, Greenfield and Grasscroft with the outlying districts of Lydgate, Scouthead and Springhead.
Uppermill was considered to be the 'capital' of Saddleworth with the council offices and the police station located there.
The pictures shown in Freethy's article brought back many happy memories of my time in Saddleworth.
