ADRIAN Heath has targeted a Premier League midfield star as he bids to rebuild his Burnley side.
Heath - who is keeping the player's identity under wraps - spoke to him on Friday and was hoping to hold fresh talks later this week.
"He has been at his present club for a few years and he is available to leave," the Clarets boss revealed.
"We have already spoken and we will probably speak again later in the week."
Heath doesn't want to alert other clubs about his target and would only say he is a midfield player.
The Turf Moor boss though is being patient.
He has a list of players he is interested in but is not rushing into anything.
"It is early doors at the moment.
"Some clubs have yet to announce their retained lists.
"At the moment it is very much a wait and see period. I have made plenty of phone calls and had lots of conversations but everything is in the melting pot."
The Clarets chief is still confident of bringing some foreign blood in to Turf Moor before the start of the season.
"What I want to do is have a couple of players from abroad over here in time for pre-season training.
"If we could have a look at them for a week or so it would give us the chance to see how they fit in over here.
"It will also give them the chance to see what they think of us.
"But I don't think a move will that much a culture shock for them these days.
"The world is such a small place.
"As far as I know the three Spanish lads at Wigan didn't have many problems settling in.
"And they seemed to cope well on the football side. People say that foreign players struggle with the physical side of our game but I really don't see that as a problem."
And Heath doesn't believe that Johan Cruyff's dismissal at Barcelona will adversely affect his ability to deal with the club.
Heath went to watch the Spanish giants and saw their reserves in action during a recent spying mission.
"Maybe I was a jinx but if Bobby Robson comes in there it might be easier to get things done.
"You never know."
