A PLANNED clampdown on dangerous dogs was welcomed by East Lancashire MPs, who called for police to step up action to stamp out dog fighting in the area.
Home Secretary Kenneth Baker was working on proposals, including a ban on the sale and import of breeds like the American pit bull terrier. Dog fighting was said to be spreading in East Lancashire, with Clitheroe and Rossendale were rumoured to be centres for it.
