ANCHORSHOLME residents have won their battle to stop a new 30-seater bus from driving down their street.
Blackpool Transport had planned the route for the new 44A/44B easy-access midibuses through narrow Lyddesdale Avenue, but after pressure will now re-route the bus from July 1.
Residents attended a meeting earlier this month when they got a chance to see the new bus and discuss the plans with transport bosses.
Anchorsholme Councillor Beverley Hill says Blackpool Transport's decision to re-route the service is "a victory for common sense."
Councillor Hill added: "It's excellent news. The road is far too narrow for these new midibuses and the new route is much more suitable.
"I am all in favour of the new buses - they are a god-send to parents like myself with pushchairs and elderly and disabled people."
Wheelchairs and pushchairs can be wheeled on board the new buses which have room for one wheelchair and three pushchairs. They will be re-routed down Valeway, North Drive and Anchorsholme Lane East.
David Eaves, traffic manager for Blackpool Transport, said: "We've listened very carefully to the views of residents and have decided to change the route. Obviously, we want people to be able to use the service but we don't want to cause problems for the residents of Lyddesdale Avenue."
