PEOPLE'S champion Catherine McGregor has stood the acid test.

The young mum who has endured six months of torment from teenage terrors but refuses to be hounded out of Westleigh.

Instead she has stood up for herself and others and is trying to prevent a few rotten apples turning the rest bad.

In the past six months she has suffered a torrent of abuse and attacks on her Birch Road home and property.

Last week Catherine's car became the object of the young thugs' attention when they threw paintsripper over her car.

But Catherine, mother of a young daughter and a handicapped son, refuses to be chased out.

Catherine, founder of Westleigh Tenants Association, says: "It would be an easy option to just pack up and leave and move somewhere else. But that would mean the baddies would win. It isn't going to be that easy for them.

"I hope the stand I have made against petty criminals is an example for others to do the same."

Supt David Edge of Leigh Police praised her courage: "Cath McGregor has been an absolute tower of strength. She's been a catalyst for people of the area to form a community group and she's been a shining example to others.

"She has shown that by getting together decent people can drive out thugs who make people's lives a misery."
