MISERABLE May has proved to too much for a pair of sun-seeking gnomes!
The duo mysteriously disappeared from their Rishton garden two weeks ago, but a post card this week revealed their apparent whereabouts - Corfu!
The card, which had a Greek stamp on it, said: "Had to have a holiday. It was too wet and cold in your garden. We are having a great time and will be back, but only if the weather gets warmer."
Owner Carole Baron said that she had just brightened up her front garden with new plants and a set of gnomes. But she woke one morning to find the pair had packed their bags and left.
Cafe worker Carole said: "I didn't have a clue where they'd gone until I received the post card. I only hope they took their little shorts and sun tan lotion with them."
Carole and her 11-year-old daughter Deborah can see the funny side of the situation, but only hope they do not get any reprisals like Mavis and Derek in Coronation Street.
"This is obviously someone having a prank at our expense," said Carole. "But we can see the funny side of it. I only hope we don't receive one of their ears through the post !"
