I HEARTILY endorse Roy Brooks' criticisms of the management at Wigan and Leigh College (Journal Mailbox).
Regardless of the gloss that Margaret Murdin attempts to put on the present situation at the college, the undeniable fact is that industrial relations at the college took a significant nosedive when she succeeded Peter Hoddinott.
While she and her senior 'management' were awarding themselves salaries well in excess of £50,000 p.a., lecturing staff were being forced onto new contracts that involved working longer hours, reduced holidays, and poorer working conditions.
It is this deterioration in staff morale, and their lack of confidence in Mrs. Murdin, that has led to the present breakdown in communication at the college.
