A NINE-year-old boy was critically ill on Tuesday last week with 90 per cent burns to his body after falling into a fire left unattended in woods near Warton the weekend before.
Alexander Kelly of Clifton Avenue, Warton, was playing with two friends when they spotted the fire from a field off Harbour Lane.
They went for a closer look and Alexander fell into the fire. He was taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool where his condition is critical.
The incident is being investigated by Blackpool CID and are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with any information should contact Inspector Weller or Sergeant Darwen on 01253-736222.
