LAST September we brought you the story of a brave little girl, desperately ill with a rare terminal illness and in need of a special bed so she could go home to Calder Crescent, Bury, and be with her mum and dad. Seven years old Ainara Manzanares-Smith, who suffers from Faziolunde, got her wish - thanks to a local anonymous business man who paid more than £1,500 for the multi-adjustable bed.

Before all that happened much of Ainara's young life had been spent in Francis House Hospice for children in Manchester.

Now her parents, Barbara and Paco, are delighted that many people have helped them raise cash for the Hospice which has done so much to support them and their daughter.

Touched by Ainara's courage many people supported events for Francis House which will now benefit from £764 raised by Barbara and Paco, with singer Jose Roca who gave his services free at an event in Unsworth Social Club.

Another £425 raised by children and teacher Tim Orrell at Castlebrook High School who arranged a non-uniform day, and the Manchester Restaurant Rincorn De Rafa which raised £1,450.

A donation was also made from the Charlotte Marie Memorial fund and local businesses and shops in Whitefield generously donated many items for raffles and prizes.

Ainara still needs regular care at Francis House and her parents, who say they cannot thank all those who have helped the hospice enough, hope that even more money will be raised by people who care about terminally ill children. Caring readers who want to help can contact Barbara on 796 8701.
