WHEN schoolgirls Helen Noble and Emma Watkinson went to Radio Lancashire to do a ten minute slot, they were so confident, they ended up hosting the whole three-hour programme.

That was last year - now the two A-level media studies students are still interviewing people on the radio, producing shows and getting all the experience they can.

The former pupils of Wellfield High School try to fit in as much work at the Blackburn radio station as their studies allow.

Emma,17, of Golden Hill, Leyland explained how it started, saying: "Originally we just went in for a look round but they invited us back during the summer holidays and it's spiralled from there."

Helen, 16, of Moss Lane, Leyland, said: "It has always been a hobby of mine - I used to write magazines for fun when I was younger. I find the practical work really interesting."

Now Helen wants to go to university before turning her hand to research work. She said: "We are working on a pop video at the moment and then we are going to try and get some work with hospital radio for the summer holidays."

And her advice to other ambitious youngsters who want to go into the media was simple: "Get as much experience as you can - because you'll need it!"
