TOURIST information centres are to close and outside bailiffs brought in to chase debtors in a review of how Pendle spends its cash.
The information centre in Nelson town hall will go first. The office in Barnoldswick, revamped only months ago, will go only after alternative arrangements to provide the service elsewhere in town are made.
Pendle's Director of Development Richard Kirby says the move should save at least £25,000. The part-time workers will be found jobs.
The move to bring in the bailiffs is for a six month trial and will be aimed at council tax and business rate arrears, and people living outside the area owing poll tax.
Community charge debts of less than £50 will be written off.
