ADDITIONAL car parking facilities, a new access road and improved playing facilities are on the cards for Sedgley Park Rugby Union Football Club.

A planning application from them was under the review of Bury Metro's planning sub-committee yesterday as the Journal went to press.

And the recommendation from the planners is for them to approve the scheme, subject to conditions.

This latest application is one of three designed to improve the playing facilities.

If the plan goes ahead new car parking around the existing rugby field will be accessed by a ring road which will follow the perimeter of the playing area.

On site the number of pitches will be reduced from two to one, which is to turn through 90 degrees. To complement the pitch there will be four new floodlights and reinforced planting along the Park Lane boundary.

Objections from nearby neighbours have been received by planners, but the club's scheme does not conflict with the purposes of the Green Belt.

If the committee agree, there will be three conditions. The club must start work within five years; the landscaping scheme must be implemented within 12 months; floodlighting should be to the satisfaction of Bury Metro's planners.
