A TALKING brain warning children about the perils of drug abuse could soon be visiting Lancaster's schools. The brain, don't worry it's just a plastic model, is part of a planned £60,000 mobile education anti-drugs centre currently on the Life Education Trust's drawing board. The illuminated model shows youngsters where food is digested, how we breathe and the devastating effects drugs can have on the body.
Now, trust chiefs need to raise another £20,000 to fund the daily running costs of the unit which is set to tour the whole of Lancashire.
Chairman Edwin Jacks explained: "The model is great because children can actually see for themselves how drugs speed up the heart rate and affects the blood circulation."
"During the next few months we hope to raise enough money to provide about six mobile units to be stationed in Lancaster, Blackpool, Preston, West Lancashire, the Rossendale Valley and Burnley.
"Our initial aim is to make children aware of the wonder and beauty of the human body and of themselves and then we can show them the dangers of drugs.
"Many schools probably don't have the resources to teach children about drugs and we can offer a great service, Mr Jacks added. "
