AN UNCANNY hush came over youngsters at a building society when they kept quiet for SuperScan.
The children of staff and friends at the Cheshire BS in Accrington raised more than £200 when they sat for 15 minutes during a sponsored silence.
Their donation and others have given a massive £7,000 boost to the appeal this week, shooting the total to £115,335.
Big donations added to the account came from the North Lancs Training Group and from the proceeds of the Asian Concert held at King George's Hall.
The money will be used to buy a magnetic resonance imaging scanner - vital medical equipment which will save the lives of thousands of East Lancashire people.
The scanner can detect potentially fatal diseases like cancer and multiple sclerosis, can pinpoint sports injuries and identify problems in bones and soft tissues.
Money raisers this weekend include four canoe enthusiasts who will be paddling the full length of the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
And this morning funds were given a boost by Ruth Loft, who held a coffee morning at the Moat House, Blackburn, for the SuperScan Appeal and Breakthrough, a charity for breast cancer.
Preparations are now under way for June 8, the Scanner Fun Day, which aims to be the biggest day of fund-raising ever held in Blackburn town centre.
And the appeal still needs your help to make it a success.
