ANGRY residents had their road blocked after a 50ft articulated lorry became firmly stuck outside their homes.

The front wheel of the tractor unit broke through a British Telecom concrete manhole cover on the pavement in Lincoln Road as the driver tried to turn out of Walter Street, at Audley, Blackburn.

The road was blocked for several hours and buses had to be re-routed.

The vehicle, which had visited factory premises in Walter Street, had been trying to negotiate traffic bollards that had been placed at the junction to keep it clear for heavy vehicles.

It was an incident that residents said they they knew would happen, as they are plagued by heavy lorries.

In September last year, 23 residents signed a petition asking councillors to clear another route to two factories in the area instead of erecting the bollards.

Mrs Pauline Taylor, who lives next to the junction, said: "There are always lorries trundling past. It becomes quite noisy and some residents have noticed cracking in their homes.

"Vehicles are always getting stuck."
