MRS A Nuttall (Letters, May 4) appears to be somewhat late in her criticism regarding the Roman Road estate in Blackburn - it's a question of closing the gate after the horse has bolted.
One is glad to see that she gets good service in her bin collection and road sweeping. That sustains the argument that council tenants are privileged - just look at the rest of the town.
Mrs Nuttall seems under some misapprehension as to blaming council tenants for the Council Tax rise.
That is incorrect and would not arise because council houses are "ring-fenced" and dealt with in a different format.
Yet, I have no qualms about putting the blame for this excessive rise on the Labour council.
With a more provident, open-eyed council, it would have been in the realms of reason to have not increased the tax above inflation.
What was specifically referred to was the allocation of the town's money to spend on improving houses.
Whilst I am sorry Mrs Nuttall took offence, it was not intentionally directed at individuals, but at this socialist council's policy of segregating and categorising people. There is no doubt that council houses are the "jewel" in the eyes of this council.
They spend 50 per cent of the available money on the council-owned 20 per cent of houses.
The politically incorrect who do not fit in with their dogma - be it private sector tenants or owner-occupiers, classed as the unfavourable species by the socialist overlords - get the other half of the money for 80 per cent of the houses.
That cannot be fair and if it's not fair, then its not right.
Would you not agree, Mrs Nuttall?
