The ex-Glasgow Rangers full-back is out of contract next month and he explained: "I've spoken to the gaffer about my contract situation. I know that it went in the press that I was offered a one year contract, but I was not given a new deal as such.
"He has told me to get fit, play ten games or so and see where it goes from there.
"I'm not too disappointed with that because I know I've got to get fully fit and get myself back in the side.
"I'm positive that I want to stay and play with Burnley. I've made my mind up about that because I've loved playing with the club ever since I first arrived here from Glasgow Rangers.
"The supporters are brilliant and they've always treated me fairly. I definitely want to stay put."
Vinnicombe faces a hectic summer recovering from a broken ankle. His season was cut dramatically short at Wycombe Wanderers on March 30 and missed the final ten games of the season as the Clarets fought to stave off relegation to Division Three.
And, although, he is making good progress after his plaster cast was removed a fortnight ago, he is still facing a stern test to be fully fit for the start of the Second Division campaign on August 17.
Vinnicombe is due to visit a specialist for an up-date on June 18 and has already begun a demanding cycling and swimming schedule to build up the strength in his ankle. He was one of Jimmy Mullen's major signings in the summer of 1994 when he joined the Clarets in a £200,000 deal from Ibrox Park.
After making an impressive start in the left-back berth he missed over a quarter of the season after fracturing his jaw at Reading eighteen months ago.
But at just 25, and with his family now settled in the town, Vinnicombe still has a lot to offer and appears keen to pledge his future to Burnley once he regains full fitness
Fellow full-back Gary Parkinson is the only player so far to turn a new deal at Turf Moor. Gerry Harrison, Warren Joyce and goalkeeper Marlon Beresford still have to decide whether to accept new contract.
Ex-Burnley boss Jimmy Mullen will be interviewed for the vacant post of manager at Third Division strugglers Scarborough this week.
Mullen joins former Blackburn and England star Gordon Cowans, Ian Bowyer, Dave Hodgson, Nottingham Forest star Neil Webb, John Ward and Dave Moore who are all in the running to replace Mitch Cook, sacked earlier this month.
