HORRIFIED residents watched as a man armed with a baseball bat went on wrecking spree in an Accrington street last night.
Police were called to a disturbance in Higher Antley Street, near Willows Lane, at around 8.30pm.
The front door and window of a house were attacked, and windows were smashed in nearby parked cars.
An officer in a marked police car escaped injury when his driver's window was smashed showering him with glass. Following a violent struggle a man was disarmed and arrested by police.
He was treated at hospital for a cut hand and was today in custody at Accrington police station.
Inspector Bob Ford said: "Numerous members of the public rang the police station and dialled 999 and said a man was smashing up a house. Officers attended and found a man brandishing a baseball bat."
A 23-year-old local man is helping police with their inquiries and was due to be interviewed later today.
A resident, who did not want to be named, said: "A man was running up and down with a stick shouting.
"He started breaking the windows of one car and then went and attacked another."
