FIRMS are being urged to sell their wares - by joining in the fun of the 1996 Scanner Day.

The fund-raising extravaganza on June 8 is promising to be one of the biggest charity events ever in East Lancashire.

Organisers are hoping the Blackburn town centre bash will provide a massive cash boost to the mammoth effort to buy a life-saving MRI scanner for the district.

But they are hoping to enlist the help of as many businesses as possible to make the event a big success.

More than 900 letters have been sent out to firms in and around the town centre area urging them to join in Scanner Day.

The initial response has been fair, but more support is needed from companies. Blackburn appeal chairman Terry Barber said: "This is not only a big opportunity for companies and traders to sell themselves, but to join in the fun of one of the biggest fund-raising events in the North West.

"We have had quite a good response, but we want more businesses to join in the fun."

An unprecedented line-up of artistes will show-off their talents during Scanner Day on June 8.

It is being organised as part of celebration '96 and will include hours of street entertainment and scores of special offers.

An MRI scanner will be housed at Blackburn Infirmary and will be a vital tool in diagnosing a range of serious illnesses.
