ST John's Infants School in Leigh has school grounds to be proud of, thanks to a joint initiative by Asda and Groundwork Wigan and Chorley.
For an environment learning area has been built in the grounds as part of BT Environment Week.
Volunteers worked with pupils to establish a species rich habitat which will provide a colourful and robust garden which will be used as an educational resource for years to come.
The main planting will took place on Friday.
Doug Edmondson, Community Link Officer for Groundwork, said: "The hope is to develop a greater understanding of the environment in the young people of St John's and establish a green island in the heart of Leigh."
