I REALLY do have to smile every time I hear about Bill Goldsmith - for it seems he can never get anything right.
He was quite rightly put in his place by your two correspondents in last week's Citizen with regards to his remarks over Oswaldtwistle and Gobbin Land.
If Goldsmith was a local and not an outsider he would know that Gobbiners and the Lamp are part of our local heritage.
It was instilled in my mind at a very young age by my grandmother that all those born "aboon th'lamp" were Gobbins.
It's really a pity that he takes everything so seriously and actually does not do a little research before going into print.
Mind you they say every village has one, and it looks like Bill has won the first prize.
It might be an idea if he were to take notice of an old saying which I remember started something like, "better to keep your mouth shut and let people think."
