NO LONGER do they rave about the Beech Walk Shuffle. Now it's the Dove Shove!
And it's paying handsome dividends as Leigh CC skipper David Dove leads from the front.
Already this season he has produced some champagne batting - and there was no denying his class again at the weekend with a superb unbeaten 102 in the battling draw at New Brighton.
He came in following a disastrous start; four wickets down, only 26 runs on the board.
But Dove was in for the duration. With good support from Colin Marshall (22) and Dave Potter (17), he steered Leigh to a declaration at 191-7. He reached his 50 in 89 balls, he faced 166 balls and he hit 15 boundaries.
New Brighton got off to a brisk start, but three wickets from Potter (conceding 54 runs) pegged them back.
They needed 27 from the final three overs, 20 from the last two, 10 from the final over, four off the last ball. But they could snatch only a single and it ended at 189-6.
On Saturday (wickets pitched at 2pm) Leigh face a touch match against Liverpool at Beech Walk.
