LEIGH'S roller-coaster ride through Summer Rugby has taken them on another upswing
Coming just seven days after the horrors of Chorley, Leigh's third success of the season was more comprehensive than the 25-12 suggests.
They had two tries disallowed and, apart from two defensive slips, always had the measure of Doncaster.
With the half-back combination of Alan Mason and Shaun Brown showing promising signs, Leigh always looked capable of opening the Dragon defence.
The re-shaped back three of Alex Cain, Rob Ball and Paul Daniel gave them a better balance, but Leigh's real class act was full-back Dave Lyon.
The former Great Britain full-back, now with the added weight of captaincy, linked dangerously from the back, scoring two tries himself and sending Daniel in for another.
Leigh began well, Andy Cheetham crossing for a try ruled away by the referee, then Mason darting clear on a diagonal run, riding a high tackle and outstripping five defenders for a splendid solo try. Ref David Asquith could rule that one away!
Just before the break Lyon held off four defenders to squeeze in for his first try. And he collected No 2 three minutes into the second half, collecting a bomb on his own 22 and shooting through for the score. Dean Purtill added the extras.
Doncaster clawed their way back to within striking distance, before Lyon again took a hand, sending Daniel through a huge gap for another six-pointer.
Again Doncaster hung on, but Mason knocked over a drop and shaped to repeat the act moments later, instead hurling a monster pass for Veikoso to send Cheetham over unchallenged.
LEIGH: Lyon; Cheetham, Veikoso, Hadcroft (Ingram 76), Purtill; Mason, Brown (O'Loughlin 54); Liku (Conway 26), Quigley, Perigo (Liku 51), Cain (Hill 78), Ball, Daniel. Attendance: 1,019.
