THE campaign to save Lancaster's main Post Office has only just kicked off claims Andy Tatchell of the Workers Communications Workers' Union (WCU). Postal chiefs decided this week that the Crown post office, on Market St, will be relocated to a more central position.
The controversial decision, which will turn the post office into a modified sub office, follows months of wrangling among councillors, unions and local people. Mr Tatchell, secretary of the Lancashire and Cumbria WCU said: "The campaign to save the post office kicks off now. We are planning to lobby local councillors, traders and the public to stop this decision."
A spokesman for Post Office Counters said services offered at the new outlet will be identical to those currently offered.
