FOOTBALL'S summer transfer market could be about to take off - and Adrian Heath is all set to make the moves necessary to strengthen his squad.

The Burnley manager has kept quiet about his intentions amid all the speculation which has been going on since the end of the season.

But with many players' contracts due to finish at the end of May, Turf Moor could could soon be welcoming several new faces.

Top of the list of candidates are Oldham striker Darren Beckford, Norwich midfielder Jeremy Goss and Barnsley's Andy Payton.

Six-foot Beckford, 29, has not agreed new terms at Boundary Park and many fans would relish the prospect of him forming a striking partnership with Kurt Nogan.

Goss, best remembered for his goal-scoring feats against mighty Bayern Munich in the UEFA cup a few seasons ago, is another player who will be moving clubs, and his talents would be a great asset to Burnley.

Charlie Bishop is still to sign for Burnley, but will probably come to Turf Moor if no other clubs make a move for him. And Payton, another Barnsley player and much-travelled striker, might also fancy a move to Turf Moor.

Heath himself was this week booked in for minor surgery on a floating bone in his ankle - so the player-manager may yet feature in some of next season's games.

The Clarets' loyal fans have signalled their support for a promotion-push in 1996-7 by starting to buy up tickets for the new East Stand, which is yet to be built.
